Bittersweet Romance Bittersweet Romance

Listen (mp3)

Bittersweet Romance was a violin and piano piece I composed in 2005. Its musical texture was inspired by the opening material in "Beauty and the Beast" (which itself sounds like "Aquarium" from Saint Saens's Carnival of the Animals). Despite that derivativeness, this piece placed first in the Bagaduce Music Lending Library Young Composers' Competition. I performed it later that year in Blue Hill, Maine.

Eventually this piece was recorded and submitted as part of my portfolio with undergraduate applications. This featured some beautiful playing by a young violinist whose name I no longer remember, unfortunately. I've looked on Facebook, I've looked in my emails, and I've asked everyone I can think of to see if I can track this guy down. I can't find his name anywhere. If you are the violinist in this recording, please contact me. I'd like to give you credit for this excellent performance.

Sheet music of this piece is available to subscribers.
